The Special Charm of a Non Electric Chandelier
Why would anyone in this day and age have a non electric chandelier in the home? Candles are expensive , require a watchful eye (10% of serious fires at home in the US is still caused by candles), they can smell (especially if you do not trim the wick often enough) and might not give you enough light anyway. On top of that you can find fake candles that look like the real thing (or very nearly) while they are cleaner and not dangerous. Therefore you can create a similar atmosphere with electric light bulbs that look like real candles. Or can you really?
The light from a candle might not be very strong (strong enough if you have a chandelier with many candles at once) but it has that warmth that makes the atmosphere instantly cosy and romantic. A bit like the difference between a radiator and a log fire, the first one is convenient, safe and efficient but it does not create any special atmosphere in the room. That is why even in our digital ‘press a button to switch it on ‘ age you still find non electric chandeliers and plenty of them, you do not even have to look very hard, even Amazon sells them. The answer is simple people still want to dream. If you want to buy a real candle chandelier you will find many traditional styles including replicas of antique crystal chandeliers but you will also find more modern and contemporary designs. You will normally need taper or pillar candles although there are models on the market that accepts both types of candles. Some people buy candle chandeliers mainly as a decoration and very rarely light up the candles, others will use them more frequently but very rarely someone would have a candle chandelier as the only source of artificial light in a room.
